Retrofitting off-the-shelf snorkel masks for Covid-19 PPE for hospital use. (May 2020)
Instagram repost I’m so grateful for this opportunity to use my skills to help combat COVID-19. Doctors in Indonesia are starting to retrofit snorkels to the hospital air filters, so they needed a specially designed adapter/hub. My first design was made a few weeks ago (May 15, 2020) and just got medically approved in Indonesia, so now doctors can text me what kind of adapter and for what size they need, and in 20min I can send them the file ready to be 3D printed. In 6 hours we finalized 3 different kinds of adapters to be fitted on the different snorkel masks they’ve bought. They also sometimes send me pre-existing designs that have proven to work, and I’ve been able to further alter the designs to work as a hub, or adapt to another type of tube. This is why I preach CAD so much, it goes hand in hand with methods of rapid prototyping, and it opens so many doors.
