KodeKiddo

KodeKiddo is a coding school with locations all over Indonesia, one being in Bali. As a coding school, they primarily focus on programming, robotics and game design. However, I wanted to introduce something new, but also relevant.

Bali is still a developing province, the education there is still limited to basic STEM and technological literacy was still primitive. I believe CAD, in addition to being easily accessible, opens up many doors into the engineering world, and Bali needed to know about it.

The Plan

Collaborating with the teachers, I designed a week long course:
After the success of the first trial run of the course at a branch in Semarang, everything was given a green light. All the KodeKiddo branches started teaching my course, and will continue to every summer.

I flew to Bali to teach my course to a class of 12 kids, with the help of two assistant teachers.

Takeaways

The class was a huge success. Every student walked away with a keychain or some kind of souvenir that they designed and 3D printed, applying what they learned in class. I walked away with the experience of teaching a formal class. There were a handful of students who learned quicker than others, and therefore needed more challenging assignments which I had to improvise.

Above all, seeing the kids eager to learn reminded me of myself, and I was proud that I made a difference in my home country.
